FAQs

How much do you charge for ghostwriting?

Each project is different. There are so many variables involved, such as length of project, amount of research, world-building (such as in fantasy and sci-fi novels), you would need to tell us what you have in mind, after which time we can provide you with a quote. But on the average, expect to pay anywhere from $0.50 - $1.25/word for one of our great ghostwriters. This is standard market rate in the industry.

Do I have to give credit to my ghostwriter?

This is entirely up to you. The very nature of ghostwriting involves hiring a behind-the-scenes professional to write for you, which is why many authors use an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) in their contracts. However, many authors like to give their ghostwriters credit by including them in the acknowledgments and/or even on the cover, which is lovely, but know that ghostwriters do not expect this.

How long does it take to write a book?

This all depends on the complexity of the project. Some of our ghostwriters can complete a rough draft in 1-2 months, while others take 4-5 if there is much detail, as in fantasy and sci-fi novels, for example. The revision stage can add another 3-6 weeks to the project. Overall, you can expect a ghostwriter to take anywhere from 2-8 months to write your book, but again, it all depends on the project.

I have written half my book. Can a ghostwriter write the other half? It would be cheaper.

It might be cheaper, but it might not be what's best for your book. It might actually cost more in the long run when the first half of your book needs rewriting, revising, or reconceptualizing down the road in order to match the second half of your book written by a professional ghostwriter.

This is why, when your ghostwriter assesses what you have written so far, he/she may recommend starting all over from scratch, either because there's too much to fix, or the existing writing reflects low experience. You wouldn't want the first half of your book to seem like it was written by one person, and the second half by someone else. Sometimes it just makes more sense for the ghostwriter to start all over using one cohesive style than to attempt fixing another person's work. All of this is taken into consideration when providing a quote.

How much do you charge for developmental editing?

Standard market rate for developmental editing is anywhere from $0.05 - 0.15/word. Developmental editing is when a ghostwriter enhances, fixes, or "boosts" your existing manuscript in order to get it ready for submission to editors or self-publication. This is a great option for a writer who has completed a manuscript but it still needs more work to make it shine.  We would need to see a couple sample chapters of your writing to give you a full quote.
